The Meaning of Free Palestine

With the news of Macklemore and Ed Sheeran comes an important discussion that needs to be had: raising awareness of Free Palestine. There is this very weird misinformation that being pro-Free Palestine means hate towards the Jewish community, and that is simply not the case, nor should this be a political thing, in my opinion. Free Palestine is about bringing awareness that humans of any age are being killed (like literal fucking children and innocent people living their lives), there is no sugar coating it, that is simply the fact. Genocide is happening again. What happened to the Jewish community under Hitler’s power is what is happening in Palestine NOW. That being said, I think that people we look up to (singers, actors, artists, etc.) have a certain responsibility to raise awareness on this subject. Greta Thunberg said it perfectly: “This is a clear and undeniable sign that the global consciousness has shifted. The normalisation of an apartheid state, and the attempts to sanitise or justify its actions, will no longer be tolerated.” People are going to throw in that Ed Sheeran had a contract to follow through on. However, the venue owner is already in breach of contract by refusing to let Macklemore perform, and Ed Sheeran has the power and leverage to stand up for something far more important than another paycheck. Macklemore did something courageous, and many others are as well; we need to show our support because this is the change we want to see in the world.

In a world that seems to be going backward and is scary to be your true self, the only choice we have is to keep fighting. To share and support people with bigger platforms, the changes we deserve to see. The only other thing I have left to say is please do your own research and keep learning from credible sources. Just because your favorite artist says something, or you find something elsewhere on the Internet, that doesn't mean that information is true.
